NEWS

Mills River Fire and Rescue is happy to announce that we have received a monetary grant from the USFA to aid in the purchase of a Fire Safety House simulation trailer. The Fire Safety House is a single level unit that is handicapped accessible and designed to simulate a variety of emergency situations involving home fires. It allows for the usage of imitation smoke to teach individuals how to escape fire and smoke in their homes. It also has a simulator to demonstrate kitchen safety, a 911 simulator phone system, hearing impaired smoke alarms with strobes, a handicapped ramp for wheel chairs, a severe weather package including tornado and earthquake education. The unit provides trained fire life safety educators the ability to utilize realistic situations to train diverse groups safer ways to live. By providing this education, the Mills River Fire Department hopes to make our families and community a safer place to live.  It is available to other county departments for usage, as well.
Special thanks goes to David Fowler for writing the award winning grant proposal, Also, thanks goes to the members of the fire prevention committee and the supporting members of our department. Call our department to schedule your usage of the FSH.
